Register New Citizens to Vote - Morning (Oakland)

Helping brand new Americans activate their citizenship by registering to vote is one of the most fulfilling activities we can participate in. From countries all over the world, they pour out of the Paramount Theater after taking the oath of allegiance to their new homeland, where we welcome them with an offer to register to vote the same day.

Join us at 10 am in front of the Paramount Theatre in Oakland. Look for a row of ironing boards on both sides of the entrance. No experience is necessary - we will train on site at 10 am.

Join us as we make phone calls to voters into our target districts about SB 562, the bill that would establish a single payer, Medicare-for-All health care system in California.

We’re turning up the heat on key members of the Assembly to make sure they hear from their constituents. Join us every Wednesday in Oakland as we make phone calls to voters in Speaker Anthony Rendon’s district.

We’ve been calling voters in his district for the past few weeks and 50% of our calls are going through to Spanish speakers. So we especially need bilingual Spanish/English speakers. If you don’t speak Spanish, that’s ok! We still need you to make calls into other priority districts.

Thanks for joining us in this fight for justice.

They've recruited for organizations like the Dolores Huerta Foundation, Indivisible Jacksonville, and Working America, moving thousands to oppose the Trump administration's agenda.

If you haven't texted with Rapid Resist before, it is SO easy and SO effective. Come check it out!

WHAT DO YOU NEED?
- A mobile device with a good battery charge
- The "Hustle" P2P texting app (available via iTunes Store or Google Play)

As the name suggests, Rapid Resist is all about timely reactions to events on the ground, so the specific cause/action we're supporting will be determined the day of our event.

Displacement & Gentrification: How did we get here and how do we stop it? (Oakland)

Hosted by SURJ - Oakland/Bay Area

Gentrification comes up constantly in the Bay Area, but few of us feel equipped to take action against it. Is it inevitable? What can we do now to prevent displacement?

This SURJ workshop will put gentrification and displacement in a historical context so we understand the racialized political and economic drivers. You'll hear about past and current struggles led by communities of color to preserve their homes and communities.
