Defend Public Education Rally (San Francisco)

  • San Francisco City Hall 1 Doctor Carlton B Goodlett Place San Francisco, CA, 94102 United States (map)

In June of 2018 SF voters overwhelmingly approved a ballot measure (Prop G) in support of SF educators receiving a much needed salary add-on. Because of the way public education is funded in California, San Francisco is near the bottom when funds are allocated from the state. This, combined with the high cost of living in the Bay Area, has caused SFUSD to have a very difficult time both recruiting and retaining educators. Prop G was a community response to this issue.

This staffing problem creates instability in the classrooms of our SFUSD children and families. Prop G though began to address the affordability crisis and resulted in SFUSD recruiting and retaining quality educators for the first time in many years. A few months ago a legal challenge was brought against Prop G and now this much needed funding for public education is at risk.

We are hosting a rally on the steps of city hall to make sure that the Mayor and Board of Supervisors know that taking away our LWEA/Prop G add-ons is not an option! We need them to stand with public education and allocate $60 million to keep Prop G whole! Join fellow educators, parents, and community allies as we make our voices heard!
